Miss America and the lead subject of a Netflix documentary visited Shamokin Monday evening to promote Overdose Awareness Day, a national effort aimed at raising awareness that overdose deaths are preventable and reduce the stigma associated with drug-related death.

While the two nationally known individuals, Camille Schrier and Dan Schneider, provided a big-name boost to the event hosted by the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way, the biggest message handed down during the festivities came from neither of them.
