A short but action-packed Tuesday night special meeting of the Shamokin City Council left many local residents reevaluating their plans for the summer after the city voted to disallow three staples of summer — the operation of the Rock Street pool, the annual fireworks display and the Music in the Park series.

The city’s decision to not open the pool is one we can only agree with. Maintaining social distancing while at the facility would be next to impossible to achieve and swimming with a mask likely wouldn’t be very attractive to many people.
