To the editor: I want to sincerely congratulate the entire community of Kulpmont for staging an impressive parade to honor our first responders.

It was a true pleasure to watch police, firefighters and EMS personnel from all over Northumberland and Schuylkill Counties come together in a rainbow of brightly polished engines, cruisers and ambulances. Many thanks also to the bands that played so well in salute to our uniformed hometown heroes.

As I walked the street to see the parade, I looked at all of the new banners saluting first responders and the men and women in our armed forces. So close to Sept. 11, Kulpmont reminded us all of just how much we owe to those who put on a uniform for our sake. Often receiving little thanks, our first responders venture out in the dark of night, the cold of winter and any other time we need their service and their protection.

I join Kulpmont in thanking our police, firefighters, EMS personnel, 911 personnel, soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines for all they do for every community in our country.
