To the editor: The exit of American soldiers from the “forever war” in Afghanistan has been chaotic and messy. There has been plenty of criticism regarding President Biden and this administration on how they finally ended this conflict. However, we must recognize the Biden team had only a few months to develop a plan for withdrawal from this troublesome country.

Perhaps we should heed the words of Mike Tyson prior to one of his historic fights: “Everyone has a plan ... until they get punched in the mouth.” Like a Tyson fight, there was no way this war would end without pain. However, unlike previous administrations, Biden, at least had the courage to step into the ring and stop the fight while the crowd booed the decision.
