To the editor: Many businesses in the City of Shamokin are struggling, families have to stretch their income to pay utility bills and the financial distress of Shamokin city government is well known.

Apparently, Councilwoman Jennifer Seidel is not very concerned about the financial burden of Shamokin citizens. Councilwoman Seidel attempted to have her friend hired as a city employee at the last council meeting. I believe government employees should be paid a decent wage, but with city residents facing big tax increases, now is not the time to increase salaries, and definitely not the time to hire new employees.
