To the editor: Saturday’s editorial by managing editor Tim Zyla: “Shamokin is at a crossroads — and there isn’t an easy solution” was direct and rightfully so.

In New York City, the Republican nominee for mayor, who has about the same chance of winning the mayor’s seat on Tuesday as I do, is Curtis Sliwa. Long story short, my neighbor’s growing up were a relation. Curtis founded the Guardian Angels, whose identity was made famous by their red berets and jackets riding the city’s subways in those Dante’s Inferno off-hours, back in the stagflation days of Jimmy Carter in the late 70s.
