To the editor: A great organization has passed. The Mount Carmel Elks Lodge 356 had its charter revoked by two grand lodge representatives at a special meeting on Nov. 14. The order to revoke our charter was executed and we are no more.

As usual, the lack of participation in meetings and events was our downfall. We live in sad times, when people no longer get involved to see what good they could do for the community. We have made sizable donations to Boy Scout Troop 174, the Mount Carmel Area Public Library and the Mount Carmel Food Pantry, to name a few.

All of our programs ceased, but we have now enlisted the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 464 to present the students of the month and year from our schools.

Also, Aerie 464 accepted our offer to be co-sponsors with UNB Bank for the Halloween parade. At least this great tradition will continue with people who are working hard to better our community.
