To the editor: I graduated from Shamokin High School in 1959. I was active in Boy Scouting in Troop 253 and Explorer Post 2253 under the leadership of Dave Donmoyer at First Presbyterian Church. I also served as an adult leader in the area as well as later serving as a district executive in the west district of the council as director of Camp Karoondinha.

I have just completed a book on the history of the Susquehanna Valley Area Council that served the area from 1927 until 1975. The book is now being edited and I hope to have it published later this year.

I have now decided to try and write the history of Scouting in the Shamokin and Coal Township areas and would like to ask for assistance from people in the area. If you have any information on Cub Scout packs, Scout troops and Explorer posts, I asked if you could please share it with me.

I am looking for the following years they existed, leadership, the unit number and sponsor such as church, school or civic association that served them. I believe there was Scouting in Shamokin as early as 1910 and the first troop in the recognized Scout council was 1917.

I am also looking for information on units in the surrounding area such as Overlook, Ranshaw and the like. I would also like to know if there was ever any Scouting in Trevorton along with any early information on Camp Nikomahs and Karooondinha.

I can be reached at Nelson Clements, 108 Vermont Lane, Levittown, Pa. 19054-1029, or by email at ajapeu@verizon.net.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.
