To the editor: The incompetence of the City of Shamokin has resulted in the loss of a great opportunity for our community. This inept city administration’s unreasonable delay in selling the city-owned vacant lots on North Second Street caused the cancellation of the construction of a three-story office building at the site.

They are directly responsible for this debacle and the loss of the jobs it would have created, not to mention the needed tax dollars, estimated at $10,000 per year it would have generated for the city. At least one person at City Hall, Councilman Charlie Verano, admitted the city made a mistake with the sale and had the integrity to reach out to the press and tell the truth.
