To the editor: As we reflect on how our daily lives have changed over the past year because of the ongoing pandemic, we can’t lose sight of the freedoms and opportunities we have thanks to the sacrifices of our fallen heroes. These brave men and women answered the call to courageously defend the United States and our shared values.

While we’ve all made small sacrifices for the health of our communities this past year, Memorial Day is an opportunity for us to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The debt of gratitude we owe them and the families they left behind can never truly be repaid. We must look to their selfless courage for inspiration to do not what benefits ourselves but our greater community.
