To the editor: The number one priority of Kulpmont’s council is the safety and welfare of its citizens. Kulpmont, for far too long, has not had a fully staffed police force. Turnover is inevitable and council needs to be proactive and deal with that. There is some discussion about a regional police force that may have merit. However, the problem of inadequate police protection is with us now.
A proper main concern is how to pay for a fully staffed, robust police force. My proposal is to reduce quarterly sewer rates by $20. Then to increase taxes to a like amount to provide substantially more money for the police department. The sewer rate reduction will be for all customers of the authority.
