To the editor: Your inclusion of the column by Rev. Doug Orbaker (“White People Need to Celebrate Juneteenth,” June 30, 2022) was a wonderful contribution to your readers and to the local community. I personally felt a special thrill at reading it. For some 30 years, my wife and I have traveled between Schuylkill County and Philadelphia and have spent considerable time in both. Throughout our married life (more than 50 years as a white couple), we have been residents of an integrated Philadelphia neighborhood. It’s been our good fortune to have direct experience with white and black communities.

Rev. Orbaker, in a gentle tone, cites the wide information gap that separates white America from people of color. This lack of information among white Americans only perpetuates mistrust and misunderstanding.
