Hazing coverup

Last week, the editor of The Daily Item in Sunbury had an editorial on hazing in the area. He even mentioned Mount Carmel. What seems to be your problem, Zyla? What’s your story? Did you go to Mount Carmel or have any children go there? You’re shying away from this. Editor: It’s been two years since the incident, but I’ll recap for you an editorial I wrote after Mount Carmel canceled its football season: I condemned those who may have participated in the alleged incident, I applauded the school board for canceling the season and I expressed my belief that more training and attention needs to be given by school officials to combat hazing. On a personal note, I have no children and I am a proud graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School. As far as news reporting goes, we’ve received some news tips, and we’ve spent many hours not only discussing the situation within the newsroom, but following up on leads and reaching out to law enforcement, attorneys, school officials and others in an attempt to uncover information. When we found out from local police the matter had been turned over to the Attorney General’s office, we were the first outlet to break the news. If you’re looking for a news story, I can’t count the amount of dead ends we’ve run into, but if you can help me with that or know someone involved that would be willing to speak publicly, call me at (570) 644-6397 ext. 1341.
