Consider the time

I enjoy fireworks on the Fourth of July like everyone else but would like to see Shamokin and Coal Township consider making an ordinance that they only be allowed at a certain time. It is the 14th of July and they are being set off at 9:30 at night. I think there should be some consideration given to neighbors. Joe’s take: I don’t think the people setting them off care about consideration for their neighbors.

Respect boundaries

I love how some people think someone else’s property is a free-for-all parking lot. It takes a lot of nerve to park on property that doesn’t belong to you.

Watch out

In the paper it says the Democrats are taking steps to protect the election process. I think the people in this area better start looking at the Democrats.

Some good news

I know there’s a lot of bad news in the Sound Off. Here’s some good news: My granddaughter finally graduated from college. She went through the Northumberland County Drug and Alcohol program. There are some good things that happen in this county and I want to particularly thank three of the employees — Glenda, Mandy and Anne. They helped her immensely and thanks to those three women, my granddaughter is finally on the road to success.

Good job, PD

Kulpmont mayor and police department have done a great job. I always see them cruising the borough. Great job, Kulpmont cops. Keep up the good work. It’s the best department we’ve had here in at least 10 or 15 years.

Not black and white

I read Robert Bomboy’s letter to the editor on Sunday’s edition of The News-Item concerning the Fourth of July parade that President Trump authorized in Washington, D.C. Correct me if I’m wrong, but did not JFK’s administration have the same type of military parade during his tenure as president? Joe’s take: From what I’ve read, JFK did have military personnel and missiles in his 1961 Inaugural Day parade. But he’s not the only president that had the military involved in a parade.

No, you

Why doesn’t Melania go back to her country? She can’t even speak English. Joe’s take: The first lady speaks six languages — Slovenian, English, French, German, Italian and Serbo-Croatian — five more than most people in this area.

Co-op reunion

This is in reply to co-op reunion in Sound Off: As a member of the class of ’69, no one is stopping you from organizing such a get together. We look forward to hearing from you.

Woman hater

Donald Trump hates when a woman stands up to him and overpowers him. He hates it.

Give some money

How about anybody that has somebody buried in the St. Mary’s Cemetery donate some money to the people cleaning it up. I think it would be a good idea for each person to donate $20.

Don’t prey on the elders

I like the saying, “There’s a special place in hell for those who prey on the elderly.” Many antique dealers, jewelry appraisers, people who clean out homes of elderly, etc. There’s a lot of people who are ripping off undeserving hard-working people.

Petty hate

I find it very hard to believe what I read in Sound Off this morning about some small-minded person who is objecting to a 50-year class reunion combination of Shamokin and Lourdes. How could you possibly be so ridiculous after 50 years?

Makeup leader

It’s getting harder and harder to determine who wears more makeup — Trump or his wife.

Not a miracle

For those Trump people who think this is an economic miracle under his administration, look back 10 years and you’ll find out the economy has been growing for that time in part because of Obama’s bailing out of the banks.

Nice homes

The homes on Pine Street in the 600 block are beautiful. Many of them have patriotic themes and it’s a pleasure to see them.

Hip, hip, hurray

Three cheers to President Trump for telling AOC and the other three if they don’t like it here go to another country like China, Russia, Saudi Arabia or Africa and say what they’re saying here. Their heads would be cut off or stoned or thrown in prison. Trump said what every taxpaying American citizen is thinking. Leave it if you don’t like it here. Editor: Africa isn’t a country.

Two-hour parking?

I’d just like to know where in Mount Carmel you can find a store that you could possibly shop in for two hours? There are no stores in Mount Carmel!
