Next week the Sunbury Bible Church, in Northumberland will hold its 23rd annual baseball camp, providing kids with the opportunity to enjoy the game and learn from former pro ball players.

The camp will have backyard baseball, Olympic night (five different stations) and there will be two nights of station drills, including infield and outfield practice with hitting lessons as well.

In the past college coaches and players would also partake in the camp and help kids from many areas, including those from Shamokin-Mount Carmel area.

The clinic has continued to expand its number of kid participants and has received anywhere between 100-170 kids.

“We want to tie in the game of baseball and share good news of Jesus Christ. We want to help them become moral men and leaders. We want to help them grow and mature in their faith,” said Scott Billing, an organizer of the camp.

The camp runs from July 22 through July 25 with each night of activities beginning at 6 p.m. and running to approximately 8:30 p.m., rain or shine. Boys and girls baseball players must be 5 to 12 years old. Girls softball players must be between 7 and 12 years old.

This year Bill Wegman, former MLB pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers and Don Gordon former pro ball player for the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians will be working with the clinic.
