MOUNT CARMEL — If you’re a fan of up-tempo basketball, Monday night’s game between Mount Carmel and Athens was right in your wheelhouse.
Both teams pushed the ball every chance they got from the opening tip, which led to a lot of transition scoring. But as both teams used a quick offense to get plenty of shots up, it was solid defensive play by Mount Carmel — along with some unforced turnovers by Athens — that gave the Red Tornadoes (3-0) a double-digit lead at halftime and an eventual 61-40 victory over the Wildcats (1-1).
