COAL TOWNSHIP — Sometimes the stat sheet tells the entire tale of the game. That wasn’t necessarily the case during Southern Columbia and Shamokin’s boys soccer match Wednesday night.

The game was tightly contested throughout, and it was with 8:37 remaining in the first half that one team was able to take the first lead of the game, which was a goal by Southern’s Wyatt Roadarmel. The contest remained a one-goal match for the next 40 minutes and had close shots, nice defensive plays and opportunities on the attacking end during that time frame, but a goal by SCA’s Aidan Laughlin — which came on an assist by Bryson Pitta during a counterattack — gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with 8:25 remaining, which is where the score sat for the remainder of the game.
