Southern Columbia advances to Class 2A final

Southern Columbia head coach Jim Roth watches his team threaten the Northern Lehigh end zone during a Class 2A seminfinal game last month at Lehighton Area High School.

The PIAA released its sport classification reports for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years on Tuesday, and for the second time since January 2020, Southern Columbia has been informed it will be moving up to Class 3A for football based off of the recently-implemented success points system.

However, the Tigers will once again appeal the ruling and if the competition formula guidelines laid out by the PIAA in 2018 are followed, they will win their appeal and remain in Class 2A yet again.
