MOUNT CARMEL — Playing its third game in four days, Mount Carmel Area’s girls basketball team built a nice lead against South Williamsport Thursday but had trouble putting the previously unbeaten Mountaineers away in a 42-34 win.

“I don’t think there are too many teams that can play three games in four days, especially during Christmas week when their schedules are all different, and not get a little tired,” Mount Carmel coach Lisa Varano said. “I told the girls I’m proud of the way they played.”
