MOUNT CARMEL — Playing its second game in less than 24 hours, Mount Carmel Area’s girls basketball team looked anything but sluggish Saturday afternoon against rival Shamokin Area.

The Red Tornadoes played a superb first quarter, knocking down 7 of 8 shots, including 3 of 3 three-pointers from Lauren Shedleski, to establish a 21-8 lead. The Indians never really got in any rhythm the rest of the way and Mount Carmel went on to take a 55-32 win in the Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference crossover game.
