COAL TOWNSHIP — Lourdes Regional fell to North Schuylkill 3-2 a heartbreaking double-overtime loss to open the season Tuesday in Coal Township.

Kolbi Krebs and Jocelyn Olveny both scored for the Red Raiders. Abby Fobia had eight saves during the game.

North Schuylkill’s Quinn Fisher ended the game with a goal in double OT.

ALMEDIA — Shamokin boys defeated Jersey Shore 22-35 but fell to Hughesville, Williamsport and Central Columbia during a season-opening meet Tuesday at Central Columbia.

Ethan Tharp and Clif Zheng finished eighth and ninth respectively to help lead the Indians during the meet.

ALMEDIA — Shamokin defeated Hughesville and Central Columbia but fell to Jersey Shore and Williamsport during the team’s season-opening girls varsity meet Tuesday in Central.

Shamokin’s Grace Nazih was the top performer for the Indians, finishing the race in 24:34.

PINE GROVE — Lourdes Regional defeated Pottsville by 10 strokes Tuesday in a match with major league implications as the Red Raiders hope to qualify for the season-end league championships at the end of September.

After defeating the Crimson Tide last week on the Red Raiders’ home course, Indian Hills Golf Club, by a wide margin, Pottsville gave Lourdes a challenge Tuesday at Hidden Valley Golf Course.

Panther Valley 3, Lourdes Regional 0

COAL TOWNSHIP — Lourdes Regional (1-1) lost to Panther Valley in straight sets Tuesday, 25-5, 25-14, 25-11, during a match at Lourdes.

“I need to give credit where credit is due and they have a fantastic front row,” head coach Tara Novak said. “Their hitting was smart and spot on all night and we just couldn’t get the block on them.”

Doherty Fesniak played as libero and managed 14 digs for the Red Raiders. DaniRae Renno had four kills and Anna Gownley had five assists.
