Area short tracks continue to try and build fan bases for the future of motorsports, and three area tracks offer some fun activities for the youngsters this weekend.
Tonight, Big Diamond Speedway offers free ice cream to all fans, while supplies last on HunttheGiant.com Night, along with live musical entertainment and a moon bounce house along with many other pre-race activities. On track action will find a four division program of Modifieds, sportsman, roadrunners and street stocks.
Selinsgrove Speedway offers Camera and Autograph Night with pre-race pit access and bicycle, big wheel and power wheel races at intermission for the kids. 360 sprint cars, super late models, pro stocks, roadrunners will be in action and the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing cars will thrill the fans at the Snyder County oval, tomorrow.
Lincoln Speedway returns to action tomorrow night with an Open Wheel doubleheader show of 410 sprint cars and 358 sprint cars, along with Kid’s big wheel races.
Williams Grove and Clinton County Motor Speedways are also in action tonight, as “the Grove” hosts the Billy Kimmel Memorial for the 410 sprint cars, joined by the 358 sprint cars. Kimmel lost his life at the Mechanicsburg oval in a racing accident in 2007. Clinton County continues its Fair week races with the super late models, pro stocks, 270 and 600cc micro sprints.
Joining Selinsgrove and Lincoln on tomorrow’s racing slate, Grandview Speedway hosts a two division show of NASCAR Modifieds and sportsman, serving as a tune-up for next Saturday’s Forrest Rogers Memorial. Grandview Speedway kicked off the USAC National Midget PA Speedweek on Tuesday night, as Chris Windom won the USAC Midget feature, while Jeff Strunk scored his 200th career Modified feature victory during the Thunder on the Hill program…BAPS Motor Speedway offers a varied schedule tomorrow night with winged super sportsman, limited late models, 305 sprint cars, street stocks and extreme stocks…Mahoning Valley Speedway hosts the Bill Teel Memorial for the Modifieds (four 16-lap features), late models, street stocks, pro four cylinders and hobby stocks...Port Royal offers their “Living Legends Dream Race” for the 410 sprint cars and super late models, honoring sprint car driver Joey Gravino and late model shoe, Ken Dickson. Over $70,000 in total purse money is up for grabs for both divisions, with over $10,000 awaiting the winner of the 30-lap sprint car main event….following last week’s Truck and tractor pulls, Woodhull Raceway returns to action tomorrow night with the Jake Davis “King of the Ring” for the Modifieds, a special single elimination match race among the Modified contingent. A complete show of action includes the Modifieds, crate sportsman, crate late models, street stocks, hobby stocks, mini stocks, front wheel drives and warriors…following last week’s Heath Memorial event, Five Mile Point Speedway is off this weekend.
The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series looks to wind up their three-race, Western Swing with the 32nd Annual Magic Dry Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Seattle, this weekend. The 16th of 24 events on the 2019 schedule will find Fox Sports1 offering 90 minutes of qualifying action tonight at 6:30 and one hour of qualifying tomorrow night at 10:30; while Fox Sports will offer three hours of eliminations on Sunday afternoon at 4.
Robert Hight collected his historic, 50th career Funny Car victory last weekend at Sonoma, while Bill Torrence (T/F) and Andrew Hines (P/S Bike) were also winners. Greg Anderson took his second consecutive win at the Pro Stock battle and will be looking to make the Western Swing sweep, this weekend.
