After losing last Saturday’s scheduled 2019 season opener at the Juniata County Fairgrounds, Port Royal Speedway has a very active weekend slated to usher in the new season.
The 410 sprint cars will be joined by the United Late Model Series and the Mason Dixon limited late model series tomorrow afternoon for the opener, with gates opening at 1 p.m. and racing kicks off at 4 p.m.
The ULMS stock cars return Sunday, sharing the 2 p.m. racing card with a special dirt modified 40-lap feature program, paying $5,000 to the winner. Gates open at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.
The ULMS late models kick off their 2019 campaign, tonight at Williams Grove Speedway with a $3,000 paycheck awaiting the winner of the 30-lap feature winner.
Following last Sunday’s season opener, the 410 sprint cars return to the traditional Friday night slot tonight, offering $4,800 to the winner of the 25-lap main event. Gates open tonight at 5:30 with a 7:30 start time for the two division show.
2018 season opener winner, Lucas Wolfe grabbed the checkers in last Sunday’s opener, with Danny Dietrich, TJ Stutts, Ryan Smith, Dale Blaney, Freddie Rahmer, Brian Montieth, Chad Trout, Brock Zearfoss and Cory Haas completed the top ten. Qualifying event winners were Dietrich, Montieth and Smith.
Danny Dietrich grabbed his first win of the season in the 410 sprint cars last Saturday at Lincoln Speedway. Chasing Dietrich across the finish line were Ryan Smith, Anthony Macri, Chase Dietz, Freddie Rahmer, Brian Montieth, Jimmy Siegel, Brock Zearfoss, Chad Trout and Kyle Moody were the top ten finishers. Scott Fisher, Macri and Dietrich were heat winners, while Adam Wilt won the consolation event.
The 358 sprint cars join the 410 sprints on the 6 p.m. two division card tomorrow night.
NOTES….Baps Motor Speedway kicks off its season tomorrow night at 5 p.m., featuring the winged super sportsman and Central PA Legends cars. An open practice session for the limited late models and street stocks will also be in action at the Newberrytown oval….Hagerstown Speedway also looks to open the gates for the 2019 season tomorrow afternoon with a three division show. The Northeast Ultimate Late Model Series shares the program with the pure stocks and U Stocks at the Hub City oval, with the green flag flying at 6 p.m.….Mahoning Valley Speedway in Lehighton will host test and tune sessions for the next few Saturdays, leading into the 2019 season opener on April 6, highlighted by the 100-lap feature for the headline Modifieds.
The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series concluded its third event of the season with the 50th Annual Amalie Oils Gatornationals at Gainesville last weekend. Richie Crampton took the Top Fuel win over Clay Millican; Robert Hight took his second Funny Car win of the season, defeating Tim Wilkerson; Bo Butner took the Pro Stock win, as Alex Laughlin broke. Andrew Hines won the P/S Bike final, defeating his Harley Davidson teammate, Eddie Krawiec.
Doug Kalitta (T/F), Robert Hight (F/C), Bo Butner (P/S) and Andrew Hines are the point leaders in their respective divisions when the tour resumes at the Denso Plugs 4 Wide Nationals at the Strip at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, April 5-7.
