By the time Christmas rolled around last week, the year 2020 had already taken a toll on so many people in our world and on the pro wrestling industry. Sadly, the final week of this dismal year continued its onslaught with the death of legendary 88-year-old wrestler Danny Hodge on Christmas day and the shocking passing on Dec. 26 of Jon Huber, known as Luke Harper for seven years in WWE and most recently as Brodie Lee in AEW. Hodge had suffered from dementia and Huber died from a non-COVID-19-related lung issue at the all-too-young age of 41, according to a statement released by his wife Amanda.
While there was plenty of wrestling news made in the ring on the weekly television shows, the premature death of Brodie Lee was far and away the biggest story of the week with numerous mainstream media posting the news and the ensuing tributes that poured in on various social media platforms. WWE opened Raw with a memorial graphic and several company performers did their own private tribute while on camera during the course of the program. Highlights of his matches in WWE quickly made their way onto the company network.
