Line Mountain wins state title

Line Mountain players, including Aspen Walker, middle, and Kaely Walshaw, left, embrace after defeating Ligonier Valley, 1-0, in the bottom of the ninth inning in the PIAA Class 2A championship game on June 17 at Beard Field on the campus of Penn State University.

Retuning a boatload of starters from its first-ever district championship team in 2019, Line Mountain’s softball team had lofty expectations for the 2021 campaign.

The Eagles were able to live up to all of their expectations by repeating as conference champions in the regular season, defending its district title, winning their program’s first-ever state playoff game then capped it off with a dramatic victory in the Class 2A state championship game to finish its season on the highest note possible in high school sports.
