Drew McIntyre pinned Brock Lesnar to capture the WWE heavyweight championship and Braun Strowman upended Bill Goldberg for the Universal title in two of the feature matches at last weekend’s controversial mania-less WrestleMania 36 in front of zero fans and limited essential personnel. The matches for the two-day special on the WWE Network had been taped the week before at the Performance Center in Orlando and other locations just before the state of Florida shut down such endeavors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While many people questioned the wisdom of going ahead with this year’s show for a variety of reasons, the most compelling being unnecessarily putting the company’s performers, cameramen and producers at risk for what everybody else is desperately trying to avoid — contracting the virus — WWE head honcho Vince McMahon, as he has shown in other highly questionable situations, apparently felt “the show must go on,” and it did.
