MOUNT CARMEL — The Red Tornadoes girls soccer team reclaimed the “Coal Shovel” with its 6-3 victory over Shamokin Saturday night in the Silver Bowl.

The tightly contested match included several lead changes in the opening half as there were five total scores by both teams. Shamokin’s Sadie Komara netted the first goal 1:24 into the game to give the Indians a quick 1-0 lead. Then, Mount Carmel’s Talia Mazzatesta tied things up just five minutes later. The back and forth contest continued similarly in the opening half — Madison Lippay gave the Indians another lead, then MCA’s Ava Chapman made things even with a goal. But, another goal by Komara with 2:51 remaining helped the Indians gain a 3-2 lead at the half.
