Chris Petraskie, a Susquehanna University track and field member and graduate of Shamokin Area, puts the shot at the Bison Open Friday at Bucknell University.

LEWISBURG — Shamokin Area graduate Chris Petraskie broke the Susquehanna University track and field heptathlon record and Mount Carmel graduate Ciaran Fisher posted his personal best in the 800-meter run during Friday and Saturday’s 20th annual Bison Open at Bucknell University.

Petraskie finished fourth of 15 competitors during his record-breaking performance, which stemmed from his 60-meter dash (7.40), long jump (20-06.25), shot put (28-02.75), high jump (6-06.75), 60-meter hurdles (9.29), pole vault (10-02.00) and 1,000-meter run (2:52.51).

He set the record by earning 4,395 points. He finished first in the high jump, which is the event he competed in while at Shamokin Area.

Fisher’s run of 2:00.96 in the 800-meter run was good enough for fifth place in the 30-athlete event.

The River Hawks will now attend the SU Challenge on their home track and field on Saturday.
