The eighth annual Shamokin Rotary Turkey Trot will be held Thanksgiving Nov. 22, beginning at the main entrance of Shamokin Area’s Kemp Memorial Stadium.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. with the 5K run-walk beginning promptly at 9 a.m.

Runners may preregister at Bader’s Fine Furniture on Sunbury Street in Shamokin until Wednesday, Nov. 21. Those who preregister by today are guaranteed a commemorative T-shirt.

There will be a $100 cash prize awarded to the fastest overall male and female runners. Awards and prizes will also be given to runners in each of seven age groups.

The Shamokin Rotary will also be sponsoring a coat drive for area children and young adults in need. The club is seeking donations of new or gently used coats in adult and children sizes.

All donations will support area children and young adults in need to help them though the cold winter season. Drop off locations are at Bader’s Fine Furniture, 704 N. Liberty St., Shamokin; Fulton Bank, 100 W. Independence St., Shamokin; and BB&T Bank, 521 N. Second St., Shamokin. Donations will also be accepted on location the day of the Turkey Trot.

The Turkey Trot has become a popular holiday activity in the area, with entire families running or walking together or family members rooting each other on to do their best.

The Rotary is hoping for a great turnout as this is the club’s major fundraiser, which allows the organization to support many community service projects including the Santa Sleigh, dictionary project, career and technology student of the month, student exchange program and numerous other community projects.

Area businesses and interested patrons can still sponsor the race as well. If interested in becoming a sponsor, please call Bader’s Fine Furniture at 570-648-4802 for more information.
