COAL TOWNSHIP - Shamokin Area High School seniors Blake Zalar and Nate Miller on Wednesday signed to play football at division one programs.

Zalar, a junior defensive tackle, had 39 total tackles this past season for the Indians and posted two sacks as he helped lead Shamokin back to the postseason.

Zalar joins a Rutgers program that went 1-11, but finished strong in Big 10 play. The Scarlet Knights only lost to Penn State by 13 and Michigan State by four.

Miller, a senior linebacker, was a force on defense and made a name for himself with his ability to make plays and get into the opponent's backfield. Miller joins Colgate program that went 10-2 overall and went undefeated at home.

This Patriot League team beat James Madison in the second round of the NCAA Football Championship, 23-20, before losing at North Dakota State, 35-0.
