Southern Columbia’s Max Tillett (8) and Payton Pursel gesture to the home crowd after the Tigers beat Wilmington 49-14 in the PIAA Class 2A Championship game on Friday, Dec. 7 2018, afternoon at HersheyPark Stadium.

ESPN announced its televised High School Football Kickoff schedule via a press release on Wednesday, making Southern Columbia's highly anticipated Week 1 opener official.

The Tigers will take on Hammond High School on Sunday, Aug. 25, at its home field in Columbia, S.C. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be featured on ESPN2.

According to the press release, Southern Columbia's Julian Fleming will be the highest ranked prospect (No. 4) to be featured on the worldwide network of sports, ranking several spots ahead of Hammond's defensive end Jordan Burch (No. 6) and offensive guard Alex Huntley (No. 221).

The two high school football programs are coming off undefeated state championship seasons a season ago and are riding double-digit winning streaks.

The primetime matchup will be the last game of the ESPN High School Football Kickoff, which will air for its 10th year.
