Southern Columbia wins state gold

Southern Columbia’s Loren Gehret fires a shot on goal while defended by Greensburg Central Catholic’s Alexa Gill in the second half of the state championship game last year.

Last season Southern Columbia’s girls soccer team had to close out the regular season by winning four of their final six games just to qualify for the district playoffs. After doing so, the Tigers went on to win their six postseason games allowing them to capture their second PIAA Class 1A championship over the past three years.

This year, with all but one player returning from last year, the expectations are high. Entering the regular season, the Tigers are looking to have a better record in the regular season as most of their opponents have had to deal with major losses to graduation.
