A local youth basketball team nicknamed the SpeedBoys are not only succeeding on the basketball court, but in the local community as well.

On March 16-17, the team played in a tournament at Susquehanna University and won the championship without losing a game the entire weekend.

A weekend later, the SpeedBoys played in a tournament at Lycoming College and came out on top again, going undefeated and winning the championship in back-to-back weeks.

The team’s hard work did not stop there.

On Saturday, April 6, the team donated their time in an effort to help the community. Players, coaches and family members helped the Moose in Shamokin stuff over 5,000 Easter eggs for an upcoming egg hunt.

The SpeedBoys are mainly comprised of fifth grade boys around the local area. Players include Jude Lazicki, Ryan Bickert, Logan Steele, Gavin Beaulieu, Ben Gehret, Jake Gehret, Cru Schroyer, Landon Kramer, James Strausser and Dylan Fenix.

The team is coached by Dean Schroyer, Sr. and Dan Fellin.

The travel basketball team is sponsored by local business throughout the area, including: Epic Constructions Services, LLC, Klebon Insurance Group, the G-Lounge, Wayside Inn, West End Fire Company, Burger King, Maureen Zarick Beauty Shop, Brewser’s Sports Grille, Independence Fire Co., Paxinos Beer Ship, Past Time Club and Academy Sports Center.
